The Southeast Texas Mavericks are a franchise formerly of the American Basketball Association based in Winnie, Texas. The Mavericks are currently not affiliated with any league. The Mavericks had recently played in the Gulf Coast Division of the American Basketball Association. The team plays its home games at Nutty Jerry's Entertainment Complex. [1]
The team was previously known as the Southeast Texas Mustangs and owned by Jerry Nelson (and before that the Rio Grande Valley Silverados of the Continental Basketball Association which Mr. Nelson purchased from Dr. Jordan Mosowe which they were based out of McAllen, Texas). [2] They played their home games at the McAllen Convention Center for their one season in the CBA before relocating and switching leagues. The original Silverados were originally going to play in the American Basketball Association before choosing to go into the CBA.

In the team's inaugural ABA season in Beaumont the Mustangs proved to be a force to be reckoned with. They won 27 of their first 28 games, many by margins of 50 points or more. The only loss being a 1 point defeat in the final seconds of the game to the Texas Fuel. They rose to the top of the ABA Power Rankings early in the season, and did not fall from that perch until suffering defeat in the ABA Playoff Semi-Finals.
On May 14, 2009, owner Jerry Nelson announced the new name and logo. That is when the Southeast Texas Mavericks were born.
The name had changed, but the game remained much the same for the franchise as the Mavericks consistently remain atop the ABA Power Rankings. On January 25, 2010 the Mavericks set an ABA record for victory margin by beating the New Mexico Rim Rockers 158-72. The margin of 86 points erased the old mark of 81 set by the Kentucky Colonels in the 2004-2005 season.
The Southeast Texas Mavericks were ranked #3 in the MLN Sports Zone Minor League Pro Basketball Top 10 for January 2010, beating out teams from the NBA Dream League and Premiere Basketball League among others.
After dominating the ABA for the 3 straight seasons, the owners of the Mavericks decided to leave the league and is seeking a more challenging professional basketball league to join. The Mavericks have contacted the NBA Development League office about possibly buying a franchise and beginning the process of becoming a member of the NBA's Developmental League.[1][2]
